Viewing Detailed Rate Information

For any jurisdiction in the database, you can view detailed information about Sales and Use taxes. You can also enter a dollar amount and instantly calculate the tax on that amount. Details are provided here.

Getting to the Detail Page

To reach the detail page:

  1. Search or browse to the list containing the jurisdiction for which you want to view details.
  2. Click the name of the jurisdiction. The appropriate State, County, or City Detail page displays.

Understanding the Details

The illustration below shows the details for the City of Berkeley in the County of Alameda in the State of California. (By default, the detail page displays Sales tax information. To view the Use tax details, change the setting in the Type of Tax box.)

Viewing Previous Rate Information

If the previous rate is known, a blue bullet will appear to the right of the rate. If you place your cursor over the bullet, the previous rate will appear in a pop-up box, as show here:

Additional Information

For some jurisdictions, additional information displays below the Rates section in the form of Notes or Overrides.

Calculating the Tax

To calculate the tax for the currently displayed jurisdiction:

  1. Enter an amount in the Taxable Amount field.
  2. Click the Calculate button. The system displays the tax for each component, as well as the total tax, as shown below.
